Health and community centre driven by a nurse now living in Norway, aiming to help his home village, which lacks health services and only gets occasional visits from doctors who treat patients in improvised spaces or on sidewalks. This project will ensure emergency care and a clean space for future visits.

1. Observe.
Why, context, challenge.
Just two hours north of Mombasa lies the village of Dzunguni, surrounded by nature and filled with quiet determination. Life here isn’t easy. Most families rely on farming, with no electricity or running water, and when the rains fail, so do their crops. Many parents, who never had the chance to go to school themselves, leave the village to find work, often leaving their children behind.
In the heart of Dzunguni stands Eco Moyo, the village’s only school. For the children who walk its paths each day, it is more than a classroom—it is hope. Here, they are safe, encouraged, and given the chance to learn, dream, and imagine a future beyond poverty. Through Eco Moyo, a small village is building a brighter tomorrow, one child at a time.

All students are drawn from within the geographical boundaries of Dzunguni Village, ensuring the school primarily serves the local community.
Students begin their education in PP1 (Pre-Primary 1) at 4–5 years of age. The majority come from households where Giriama is the primary language spoken. From the outset of schooling, students are introduced to both Swahili and English as part of the instructional program.
3. Approach.
How, strategy, interact
The sanitation facilities was a need for the boarding students. When the school was founded there were a number of students that live in the school, so the need for this facilities were essential.
4. Design.
Programmering, development, co-create.
The proposal consists of a simple, clear, and functional design comprising two separate shower buildings, one designated for boys and one for girls. The buildings are planned with a strong emphasis on clarity of circulation, privacy, and ease of use, ensuring that they are both practical and welcoming for everyday activities.
Local and readily available materials are prioritized throughout the construction to enhance durability, reduce environmental impact, and strengthen the project’s connection to its surrounding context. By using locally sourced materials and familiar construction techniques, the buildings will be easier to maintain over time while also supporting local craftsmanship and resources.
In addition to the indoor facilities, the project integrates a sustainable outdoor space at the rear of the buildings. This area is designed as a flexible gathering zone that can accommodate social interaction, community activities, and moments of rest. Natural shading, climate-responsive design, and simple landscaping elements contribute to a comfortable and inclusive environment. Together, the shower buildings and the outdoor gathering space form a cohesive, sustainable, and context-sensitive solution that balances functionality with social and environmental considerations.
